Theory of Operation
The MCG 2000SFI Encoder Transmitter features the patented
L&J straight-line absolute optic encoder. The encoder utilizes LED
emitters and detectors in place of wiping fingers or potentiometers used by
other manufacturers to encode the mechanical gauges' shaft position into
digital signals. To further simplify mechanics, a direct machined gear train is
used to couple the gauge shaft to the foot and 16ths encoder discs.
The simplified mechanics and absolute optic encoder virtually eliminated the
problems normally associate with Geneva Gears, oil filling, slide wires,
mechanical contact sensors, and recalibration after power outages, making the
MCG 2000SFI the most reliable, maintenance-free Encoder Transmitter available.
Communication between the computer system and the field equipment is provided
by the L&J "Tankway™" four wire digital data highway. The L&J "Tankway™"
was specifically designed for optimum performance in the refinery or tank farm
environment in parallel to the highway. Up to 128 field devices may be wired to
a single highway, and multiple highways can easily be configured into the
system.
L&J maintains a stock of spare parts as well as a full service staff which,
together, guarantee quick turn-around on any part that is sent in for repair.
Onsite repairs can be made on the transmitters with spare parts being supplied
by L&J. As anyone can see, the design features which have been engineered
by L&J provide for application versatility and ease of service...both of
which prove that the MCG 2000SFI is Engineered to Perform.
Patented "In-Line" Absolute Optic Encoding
The MCG 2000SFI Encoder Transmitter features the patented L&J "In-Line"
absolute optic encoder. The encoder utilizes infrared LED emitters and
detectors to directly convert the mechanical shaft position into a digital
signal. To further simplify the mechanics, a direct machined gear train is used
to couple the gauge shaft to the encoder disks.
